An Interview With Dr. James Miller MD , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Akron

1. How Does a Breast Lift Work?

A breast lift or mastopexy involves surgically lifting and reshaping sagging breasts to achieve a more pleasing aesthetic appearance. This involves removing extra skin and some times breast tissue. If there is loss of breast volume along with breast droop, placement of breast implants to restore a more youthful shape can be considered.

2. When Is the Best Time for a Breast Lift?

There is really no age or time limit as to when a breast lift can be performed. I would generally recommend that women who are considering having children in the near future wait, as pregnancy and breast feeding may significantly affect their breast shape. After pregnancy they may certainly consider (and want) breast lifts.

3. Are the results from a breast lift permanent?

The benefits of a breast lift are in many ways permanent. However, the ongoing effects of gravity and aging persist and natural changes in the breast should be expected.

4. Where will the surgery most likely take place?

In a hospital or out patient surgery facility.

5. When can I return to work and strenuous activity?

This will vary depending on the extent of the surgery. Return to normal daily activities should be expected in a few days while return to full vigorous sports activity may take a few weeks.

6. Is it possible to have my insurance to cover my breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery is generally considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance.

7. Will I require any blood transfusions during breast lift surgery?

The need for a transfusion would certainly be unexpected and rare.
