1. What are some of the most common benefits of breast lift surgery?
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, allows a woman to return her sagging breasts to their more youthful appearance after childbirth or weight loss.
2. What will happen at the initial consultation ?
At the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will examine her breasts and determine what type of mastopexy will be required to restore the breasts to the woman' s desires. Incisions and scars are always attempted to be kept to a minimum to obtain the desired reult. The plastic surgeon will also evaluate the patient to determine whether or not an implant will be required for best results. The surgeon will also evaluate the patient to see if there are any medical conditions that may need to be addressed prior to surgery.
3. How long does breast lift surgery take?
The length of time the surgery takes depends on what type of breast lift is required. It may range from less than one hour to more than three hours for a complex procedure.
4. Do I have to stay in the hospital?
Breast lifts are outpatient procedures and a hospital stay is NOTrequired. In fact, patients are encouraged to go out the evening after their surgery and certainly by the next day.
5. How much pain is there?
There is very little pain with a breast lift procedure. Pain medications are prescribed, but are usually not taken after the first night after surgery. In fact, there is generally less discomfort than after breast augmentation surgery.
6. What can I expect after breast lift surgery ?
After surgery, you can expect some swelling that will last a few weeks. You should wear a comfortable bra that will support your breasts and minimize the swelling as they heal. You will have a small dressing that can be removed after a day or two so that you can shower. Your stitches will all be inside and will all dissolve on their own. You can resume normal activities in a day or two except for heavy lifting and exercise which you should limit for about two weeks. You should return to be seen by your plastic surgeon in about one week to make sure that everything is healing properly.
7. What is the long term outcome like ?
The results of your breast lift surgery will be long lasting. As the swelling decreases, your breasts will settle into a natural round shape. The incision lines will fade over time, but on careful examination may be visible for some time. You should maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle to maximize the results of your surgery.
