An Interview With Dr. Valentini, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Hopkinsville

Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?

The best candidates for breast Lift Surgery are healthy, emotionally stable women who have realistic expectations about what this type of surgery can accomplish. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results will not last as long in women with heavy and large breasts who may need also some form of reduction.

Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?

Every surgical procedure carries a certain amount of risk and it is important for the patients to understand these risks and the possible complications such as bleeding, infection, changes in nipple sensation and scarring. Bleeding and infection are unusual and prevented with careful surgical technique and use of antibiotics during and after surgery. Changes in nipple sensation are usually temporary, also 3 to 5% of patients present some form of decreased sensation after the surgery. Because of the location of the incisions, scars can be minimized and several of the scar treatments currently in the market are useful in improving these scars over a period of time.

What is the recovery period like?

Recovery from Breast Lift Surgery is about one week. However, patient cannot resume full exercise especially of the upper body for 3 weeks.

What is Breast Lifting?

Breast Lift or Mastopexy is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. This may be the result of factors such as pregnancy, nursing, weight changes, aging and gravity which cause changes in the appearance of a woman's breast. When the skin loses its elasticity  breasts often lose their shape and begin to sag. This procedure also reduces the size of the areola often stretched with the sagging of the breasts.

How is breast lift surgery done?

Breast Lift Surgery is an outpatient procedure performed in a Surgical Center or Accredited Surgical Suite Facility. Incisions are made around the nipple areola area as well as under the breasts in order to reshape them. If the breasts are small or have lost volume after pregnancy, breast implants can be inserted at the same time to increase size and firmness of the breasts. Recovery is about one week.
