An Interview With Dr. Edwards, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Las Vegas

How long do the results last?

The results of a breast lift (mastopexy) surgery will vary from patient to patient. The factors involved include the health and quality of your skin overall, whether you gain or lose weight, and as well future pregnancies can affect the long term result. The one aspect of a breast lift surgery that may disappoint some patients is a loss of upper breast fullness over time. The best way to regain this is if you have an implant placed at the same time or after your breast lift.

Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?

The goal of breast lift surgery is to help correct laxity in a woman' s breasts that can occur as a result of weight loss or after pregnancy and breast feeding. Breast lift (mastopexy) can typically be performed with or without a breast implant to provide an increase in overall breast volume. As with any surgery there are risks and possible complications that should be discussed at length prior to surgery. There are always the standard risks of infection, pain and bleeding, but thankfully these, like most complications are infrequent. You should know that without an implant your breasts will be smaller as a result of the lift and this may be precisely what you desire. There will be incisions and subsequent scars as a result of the surgery and your plastic surgeon will be able to draw those out for you and even show you photos of their patients who have had similar surgery. There are other less common risks such as decreased sensation of the nipple and breast skin and potentially loss of breast tissue from poor healing. It is very important that you do not smoke or be around someone who does smoke while you are healing. By and large women who undergo breast lift surgery are satisfied as long as they have proper expectations. This discussion is not meant to be comprehensive and does not replace a face to face consultation with your plastic surgeon.
