An Interview With Dr. Daryl Hoffman MD , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Palo Alto

1. What are the concentric (doughnut) and anchor-shaped breast lift techniques?

Breast lift techniques have been developed over many years by many different plastic surgeons. The standard complete lift uses an "anchor" or "key hole" pattern that leaves a scar around the nipple, down to the bottom of the breast, and in the crease under the breast. The doughnut lift only makes a scar around the nipple but can' t lift the breast as much and isn' t appropriate for many women with droopy breasts.00

2. Is the placement of the nipple and areola affected by a breast lift?

The nipple and areola are repositioned by a breast lift.00

3. Where are the incisions made during breast lift surgery?

As discussed above, it depends on the type of lift. Sometimes, it is sufficient to just make an incision around the nipple, but with droopier breasts, more incisions may be necessary.00

4. Does breast lift surgery require any prior medical tests?

Mammogram may be needed depending on one' s age and medical history. Blood tests are often performed pre-surgery.00

5. What does a typical mastopexy consultation entail?

Consultation should involve breast evaluation and measurement to determine what type of lift is best. There should be a discussion of the surgery with regards to the FIVE S' s: Safety, Scarring, Sensation, Shape, and Size.00

6. Is there a lot of swelling involved with mastopexy?

Swelling and bruising vary from person to person. Moderate swelling is to be expected.00

7. When will I be able to see the results?

Breast lift results are apparent very soon after surgery. Initially, the breasts are high and possibly, very unnaturally so. After 4 to 6 weeks, the improved shape will usually be appreciated.00
