An Interview With Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel MD , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Plano

1. What are the concentric (doughnut) and anchor-shaped breast lift

These techniques refer to the resulting scar pattern once the procedure is performed. The extent of the scar depends on how much droopiness the breast has and how much extra skin there is. Most plastic surgeons try to keep the scars as short as possible in order to achieve the desired result.

2. Is the placement of the nipple and areola affected by a breast lift?

Yes, it is typically repositioned. If you think of a breast as a cone; the apex of the cone should contain the nipple/areolar complex. It remains attached to the underlying breast tissue and is brought out through the skin in a more favorable place.

3. Where are the incisions made during breast lift surgery?

As we noted above, it may be limited to a circular pattern around the areola, a lollipop incision with a vertical extension from the above circle down to the breast crease, or an anchor or T” incision.

4. Does breast lift surgery require any prior medical tests?

If you are in good health and generally younger than 50, you may require only a pregnancy test (if applicable). If you are older or have medical problems, your MD may elect to have you see your internist or a preoperative specialist.

5. What does a typical mastopexy consultation entail?

We try to identify what you are unhappy with. Get a detailed medical history and specifically breast history. We then examine you including taking specific measurements, which allow us to plan your surgery. If a mammogram is indicated, we would get that prior to your surgery.

6. Is there a lot of swelling involved with mastopexy?

We don’t anticipate too much swelling, but there will be some. Most of it will be gone in 4-6 weeks.

7. When will I be able to see the results?

Breast shape will change over the first 4-6 weeks. It is very important to wear your bra day and night during the first 3 months while the breast regains it wound strength. Gravity is powerful and can change your result while you are healing! You will see ongoing changes over the first year.
