Can exercise tighten the skin without Breast lift?
No, there are no exercises that will lead to an improvement in the skin tone and tightness. Your skin tone is a result of genetics, age, weight and size changes as a result of diet or pregnancy. That is why there are varying amount of skin removed when performing a breast lift or breast reduction.
Can the nipple sense of touch be lost from a mastopexy?
In general the sensation to the nipple is not altered or lost when having a mastopexy. It is one of the risks that must be discussed with you. It is more common for the sensation to be initially diminished followed by a peroid of time where the sensation to the nipple is heightened or overly sensitive.
Is it possible to increase or decrease my breast size during surgery?
Yes. To increase the breast size an implant would be inserted either in front or behind the muscle. To decrease the breast size, that is considered a breast reduction with the removal of not only skin but also breast tissue.
Where are the scars after Breast lift?
The scars from a breast lift can range from just around the nipple and areola (donut mastopexy) to around and vertically down towards the crease (like a lollipop) and similar to an inverted T or anchor. The quality of the scars are good, only 1 to 2 millimeters in width. They will remain pink and red for 3 to 6 months prior to fading to skin colored lines. In frequently, the scar can be heavier or hypertrophy depending on one's genetic predisposition. Only a prior surgery will give you an idea of the possible scar appearance.
Do I need a mammogram before breast lift surgery?
Mammograms are always recommended, but they may not always to covered under your insurance plan. It is the recommendation of the medical community that all women starting between 35-40 have one mammogram and then yearly after that. It is recommend that one year after breast surgery that a new mammogram be done to establish a new baseline.
