What are some of the most common benefits of breast lift surgery?
The patient enjoys a more youthful appearing breast... often commonly called "perkier." The aim is to restore a breast contour that one had as a teenager or young adult, prior to having children.
What will happen at the initial consultation ?
Usually the surgeon will take a history, listen for the patient's expectations and desires, then do a physical examination and take pictures. A discussion of the patient's condition, her goals for surgery and what surgery involves usually follows. The surgeon may go into details as to what surgical approach he may use, the scars that result, the risks and complications and finally the costs to the patient.
How long does breast lift surgery take?
Depending on the technique employed, 1 to 3 hours.
Do I have to stay in the hospital?
Usually not. Surgery is commonly done as an outpatient procedure.
How much pain is there?
Varies with technique used, length of incision,.etc. Pain also depends on patient's tolerance. Pain is typically managed with pain pills without much problem
What can I expect after breast lift surgery ?
One can expect a 2-3 week recovery period, limited activity for 3 - 4 weeks, diminishing pain over 1-2 weeks. The breasts will be less sagging and more youthful appearing right after surgery. There will be swelling and bruising that make take about a month to resolve.
What is the longterm outcome like ?
Usually pretty good. Surgery turns back the clock, but doesn't stop it. The breast will be improved, but over time the sagging will slowly return over the years. There may be less sagging and the breasts may take longer to drop, but the effects of gravity are relentless and the loss of elasticity with aging is progressive. One still will look better ten years later after surgery than without surgery.
