1. Are the results from a breast lift permanent?
A breast lift involves removal of excess skin and breast tissue reshaping. There are several types of breast lift operations. Those that involve breast tissue reshaping and do not rely on the skin to hold the breast shape are most durable.
2. Why would I want a breast lift?
A breast lift is an excellent option for patients who would desire a more youthful breast shape. Most patients who desire mastopexy have breast droop associated with pregnancy or weight loss.
3. What should I expect during breast lift surgery?
A breast lift can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Excess skin is removed and the breast tissue is reshaped by a number of techniques. The incisions are closed in layers. My goal with a breast lift is to "overdo" the lift a little. Over the next several weeks the tissue will soften and the breasts will assume their final shape.
4. Where will the surgery most likely take place?
Breast lift surgery can be performed in a hospital, in an outpatient operating center or in an accredited office based operating room. I perform most of my breast lift surgeries in my AAAASF certified office operating room. This is done with deep sedation by a board certified anesthesiologist and local anesthetic.
5. When can I return to work and strenuous activity?
Office work is generally allowed within one week. Strenuous activity is allowed at 6 weeks.
6.Will I require any blood transfusions during breast lift surgery?
No, the technique that I use results in almost no blood loss. Blood loss is in the range of a couple of teaspoons.
7. Is it possible to have my insurance cover my breast lift surgery?
Insurance will pay for a breast lift in the event of breast cancer for reconstruction.
