1. I have recently lost weight and I am working on losing more weight. Will weight loss affect the results of a breast lift?
Weight loss can affect the appearance of your breasts with or without breast lift surgery. However, if the weight to be lost is not dramatic, your result should be fine. If a greater weight loss is desired, it would be best to hold off with surgery until closer to your goal weight.
2. Is it safe to have a breast lift during the same setting when I am having another cosmetic surgery?
Mastopexy or breast lift can be safely performed with other cosmetic procedures, assuming you are a healthy and reasonable patient to begin with. That being said, I am not a proponent of "extreme makeovers" due to increased risk. An experienced Plastic Surgeon can help you decide if the additional risk of combined procedures is acceptable to you.
3. How can I find out more about breast lift surgery?
There are numerous web sites that can help you research and understand breast lift surgery. My personal web site www.drdavidshuter.com and the official site of the American Society of Plastic Surgery www.plasticsurgery.org are good places to start.
4. Will a breast lift get rid of stretch marks?
A breast lift will remove some stretch marks but usually not all of them. Your plastic surgeon can give you a better answer at your physical exam and consultation.
5. What incisions are made for a breast lift?
Breast lift surgery can be performed with a variety of incisions. This depends on the severity of the droopiness. In other words, a very droopy breast would need a longer incision to tailor and lift, and a less droopy breast could be improved with a smaller incision technique. My web site www.drdavidshuter.com has animation to explain this in more detail.
6. How should I prepare for the breast lift surgery?
I recommend preparing for any cosmetic surgery as if you are preparing for an athletic event. You should get plenty of sleep, eat a good healthy diet, especially protein calories to help you heal, and take appropriate vitamins and supplements. Your plastic surgeon can give you more specific recommendations if you have a medical issue, such as diabetes, for example.
7. Is there a lot of pain after a breast lift?
Breast lift surgery has surprisingly little pain post op. In my practice we have special instructions that also help minimize discomfort, such as utilizing a bra, elevation, ice, etc. Most of my patients report much less pain than anticipated. If an implant is used, the pain can be more but should be easily controllable with post op pain medication.
