An Interview With Dr. Castor, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Tampa

1. Are the results from a breast lift permanent?

The results from a breast lift are long lasting, 20-30 years, but no surgical results are permanent. Everyone continues to age and gravity continues to work to cause skin and tissue to fall. A healthy lifestyle, regular exercise and keeping your weight stable all help to maintain results. The ideal woman is done having kids and has lost all of her pre-pregnancy weight.

2. Why would I want a breast lift?

Woman who want a breast lift have experienced sagging, loss of skin elasticity, and a change in shape of their breast after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations and aging. A woman who is bothered by the feeling that her breasts sag or have lost shape and volume is a good candidate for a breast lift. Also, women may benefit from a breast lift if their breasts have become more flat, long or their nipples and areola point downward.

3. What should I expect during breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery is usually done under general anesthesia. An incision is made around the areola and sometimes extended down to the breast crease. The underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve the breast contour and firmness. The areola and nipple are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height.

4. Where will the surgery most likely take place?

The surgery is done at an outpatient surgery center. You would go home on the same day and not have to stay in a hospital.

5. When can I return to work and strenuous activity?

Most woman return to work in one week. You may resume strenuous activity and exercise in 6 weeks.

6. Will I require any blood transfusions during breast lift surgery?

Blood transfusions are extremely unlikely. I have personally never had to give a blood transfusion to a patient after a breast lift surgery.

7. Is it possible to have my insurance cover my breast lift surgery?

No. Insurance will sometimes cover breast reduction surgery for women with back and neck pain due to the large size of their breasts. However, a breast lift is considered by insurance companies to be cosmetic and would not be covered.
